Leaving Westward

Dear friends,

we are writing from Bora Bora. Last shopping and refueling has been done.

Only our anchor holds us here. Within hours, we will lift it to head westward again. Behind us almost 1700 nautical miles sailed throughout French Polynesia. A territory as big as Europe with scattered islands and archipelagos to discover. We have had a great time, and despite the fact that it has been a tough decision, we have decided to spend the cyclone season in New Zealand. We will leave the French Islands behind to head to the Cook Island. Weather permitting it will be Aitutaki. Before that and if the southern swells allow us to franchise the pass, we will try to enter Maupiti tomorrow at sunrise.

After the Cooks we will spend some time in the only none colonized country of the Southern Ocean, the Kingdom of Tonga.

From there we will head South to New Zealand to reunite us with the Kiwis and spend Christmas with them.

We have updated a few posts on the blog. But believe it or not, we have not had much time these last weeks so many articles are not translated to english. Be patient. We will eventually do it and hopefully be able to do so during the next 1500 miles that we will be sailing over the next 20 days.

All the best to all of you, we do think about every one of you very often.

Hi- I’m a friend of Sylvia Rausch in Barcelona from when we were neighbors in 2002. We lived there with our 10 year old daughter for a year and had a great experience. She sent the link to your blog and it looks like a great adventure, especially with the kids. We also love to travel, and I set up a blog at frozendentist.com if you ever get bored and want to check it out. I’m heading back to work in Antarctica in January, and if you make it to Christchurch, NZ, check out the Antarctic center near the airport which is the staging area for the US and New Zealand programs that fly south from there. Happy travels! Cheers, Bob Koff
