YES !!!!! We made it!
15 years after we had been here before we sailed into the Bay of Islands with the Code O up. Saw 2 Bryde’s whales and 4 penguins. Smelling of grass and flowers. Beautiful scenery!
Got into Opua yesterday November 25th at 17.25 and moored alongside the quarantine dock. Customs and the kiwi equivalent to Homeland security were not working anymore so we chatted with 2 other boats that had just arrived from Fiji. We cannot get in touch with anybody local and the Q-dock has no access to land.
Officers came this morning and cleared us into the country. The Homeland security people here do not look for bombs or terrorist. They are in charge of Biosecurity. Make sure we do not enter any foreign species into this unique country.
All well, after 40 minutes Lumbaz and her crew were allowed into New Zealand.
We have enjoyed a great passage, which has finally been an easy one. Meeting old friends here again.
Will prepare a post with pics.
We are proud and happy to be here. Heaps of Kiwis around. The real ones, not the fruit or the animal, but those great, authentic, straightforward and incredibly welcoming people who live in this great country.
Cheers to you all !!!!
